Liposuction for Men – Important Facts!

Liposuction for men is still relatively uncommon. Cosmetic procedures that aim to refine the human figure and bodily proportions are often associated with women.  However, there has been a noticeable increase in liposuction and other body sculpting procedures with men as well.  Recent statistics have in fact divulged that at least 12 percent of liposuction procedures in the United States have been performed on men.  Liposuction for men has been increasingly popular as more and more men have considered cosmetic surgery as a viable option for making their appearance better.

Liposuction for men usually targets several areas of the male body.  A common area for male liposuction is the area around the abdominals, where “love handles” form.  Many men would like to remove the fat in this area which has proven to be difficult to lose despite diet and exercise.  Another popular area for male liposuction is the abdominal area itself, where male patients want to get rid of the “beer belly,” so that they may realize having “washboard abs.”  Lastly, male patients want their chests sculpted to get rid of what is commonly referred to as “man boobs.”
A number of male patients have also gone to liposuction to sculpt their faces.  To keep a more define face which results in a more youthful look, men have resorted to have liposuction done to reduce fat in their necks, jowls and chins.

Liposuction for men usually costs more than female liposuction procedures.  For one, fat found in male patients contains more fiber compared to fat found in female patients.  Fibrous fat is more complicated to extract and thus takes more time for removal by the surgeon.  Moreover, the areas that are usually targets for liposuctions for men, such as the abdomen, love handles, and chest are fibrous themselves.  Lastly, the treatment areas for men are usually bigger in men than in women, as the latter have typically bigger bodies than the latter.
