How Gynecomastia Affects Men’s Lives!
The condition of gynecomastia is unique to men. It is manifested in overly-developed breasts, and is a common reason for male liposuction. If this is the problem for which you are seeking liposuction, be prepared to spend about three days away from work – more if you do strenuous work like carpentry or house painting. You’ll need to avoid using your pectoral (chest) muscles for a few days, and expect to feel sore once you do begin using them. The same applies to returning to a very active exercise program: don’t do bench presses for two to four weeks, and don’t run for about the same length of time.
This is not to say that you shouldn’t begin walking and light exercise soon after the surgery. Usually male liposuction is done with only a local anesthetic and some pain-reducing medication, often on an outpatient basis at a clinic or at your surgeon’s office. In this way, you avoid the risks associated with general anesthesia. Of course, if your liposuction involves significant reshaping of the lower body, with several areas included, you’re more likely to be looking at a brief stay in the hospital, and general anesthesia as well.
Keep in mind that, although it is unlikely that any significant amount of fat will return to the area that was treated by male liposuction, neighboring areas of the body can still easily add fat. In order to maintain your newly trim body, you’ll have to plan on eating a healthful diet and keeping up with a moderate exercise program, under your doctor’s supervision and advice.
Finally – although this really comes first – before you sign yourself up for male liposuction, be very certain that your surgeon is qualified to perform this surgery. General practitioners sometimes do perform liposuction; but your best bet, both in terms of safety and of likely good results, is to select a board certified surgeon who is especially trained in male liposuction. Spend time talking with your surgeon before the surgery, and know that you are aware of all possible risks, side effects, and long-term and short-term consequences.
