Except for emergencies which hardly ever allow patients to choose their doctors, esthetic surgery and other procedures meant to improve the way we look are always planned well ahead in every detail, from the location of the clinic and the name of the doctor to a certain period of the year and price range. No one dares to take any risks when it comes to physical appearance. One little mistake can turn everything into a terrible and thus unforgettable experience which may later bring about a series of reparatory procedures and, of course, more bills to pay.
The risk that any such procedure involves, liposuction included, combined with the fear we might not look the way we had hoped before stepping into the operation room, makes us head for the best clinic and the most experienced practitioner, especially when money is not an issue.
Yet, there is one important thing we tend to overlook: estheticians make use of their knowledge, instruments and the customer’s ‘fabric’. Our body plays a crucial part in the whole business. Have you never heard of two people who were operated on by the same surgeon and, unfortunately, only one of them was really happy with the result? One looked perfect and recovered in no time while the other had to face a long series of complications that had nothing to do with the doctor’s skills or the post-operatory treatment. Such things do happen and most of the times they are caused by the patient’s nature.
I am not going to deny that big and well-equipped clinics employ or are owned by famous specialists. The money pumped into such places come either from investors who are aware that specialists cannot work bare-handed or using out-of-date equipment, or from doctors (and owners) who have been able to increase their accounts and sustain their ‘business’ through hard work and impeccable results. However, when a doctor has completed his specialization and started on the road of esthetic surgery he hasn’t got enough experience. His future fame depends on the number and variety of procedures he gets to perform. All those first-class specialists of the contemporary medical world were once beginners and most of them did their best and got remarkable results from the first day of their career.
Among the various procedures that we are willing to undergo in order to look better or younger, liposuction is not a very dangerous one. Besides, it has become quite common with so many people whose metabolism has gone crazy because of many ‘evils’ of the 21st century. Junk food, stress, sedentary life style, not to mention several diseases that may trigger the formation of extra fat tissue, have thickened the line of patients queuing up for different types of liposuction all over the world. Can all these people reach the most famous specialists to get their problem solved? No. Many of them have this kind of procedure done in smaller clinics, at affordable prices and are quite happy with the results.
It is up to you which doctor and medical institution to choose, according to the size of your pocket, but I believe you may as well trust a younger and less famous doctor and still get good sleep at night. You will probably not be his first patient; there is always some positive history in his portfolio that you can see pictures of and read feedback about. You might be surprised to find a lot more commitment in a young doctor who is the graduate of a good medical school and trying hard to build a reputation.
